If it does, macOS sees it just fine and software should see it too, and that means now you want to troubleshoot software configuration. One troubleshooting step you want to do is open System Information (you can get there by clicking the System Report button in About This Mac), click USB on the left side, and see if your Coolscan is listed as shown below. But hopefully all the USB-based Coolscans should still work in High Sierra as mine does. I am not sure if the older FireWire-based Coolscans will still work through adapters on current Macs. If it isn't working on your Mac, maybe it's because your scanner is a different model than mine. Nikon stopped supporting the Mac version of the NikonScan software many years ago. You will not get anywhere looking for a Nikon driver for High Sierra.
